If you’ve always dreamed of having a home you’ve never lived in, there’s going to be one hitch – you’ll need to find tiny house plans that:
- Meet your expectations
- Respect your local bylaws
- Will keep the build within your budget
The good news is, you’re not alone. Millions of prospective builders are hitting up Google to find tiny house plans and in this post, we’re going to hook you up with all the resources you need to get plans that suit your needs.
Hiring an architect ain’t cheap – on that same token, solid tiny house plans do NOT have to be expensive, and that’s why we’ve broken everything down into three categories.
You might also want to first start with our Tiny House Financing guide. We recommend this as your buying part will play a large part in determining what kind of tiny house plans are available to you.
Free Tiny Home Plans:
If you’re on the tightest of budgets, there are a few solutions if you happen to be handy. We’d strongly recommend that you watch Living Big in a Tiny House.
Some of the guests will (at least partially) explain how they assembled their homes and they might just provide you with the insights you need.
Another way to go about things is to reverse engineer the process.
What we mean by this is, start with your future abode’s surroundings.
Will you build additional structures in your backyard? If so, what kind of a tiny house will pull it all together?
A few months ago, we discovered an old manual that we will be re-publishing as a full-blown modern course, but the original is pretty cool and you can get it here.
Very Inexpensive Tiny House Plans:
Have you ever heard of Fiverr?
If not, here is the quick run-down: it started as a site where you could get people to provide you with goods and services for $5.
Well, truth be told, you can’t really score much for five bucks on that site anymore (maybe it’s finally time for a name change?), but over the months, we’ve typed the keyword “tiny house” into Fiverr’s search bar and there are people there offering to provide you tiny house plans for as little as $5.
We’re not going to link directly to a specific gig on Fiverr, as sellers come and go all the time and by the time you click it might not exist anymore.
But while you are on the site, do check the site out once in a while an search for “tiny house” and you might be very pleasantly surprised.
Be sure to also search Fiverr for ‘interior decor/design’ and ‘garden’ to find people there who can assist you in building your dream property beyond the house itself.
Resource for the Hyper-Interested: while you might be super-excited about tiny house living, we don’t want to inundate you on this post, but if you visit our list of tiny house books and courses, you’ll find a few titles that can help you with plans.
Affordable Tiny House Plans
Didn’t find what you were looking for on Fiverr?
Not problem – you still have another very stellar option for custom tiny house plans, and you can thank Macy Miller for that.
Macy’s an architect who lives the dream and her tiny house design has been featured in magazines, including Time.
She put together an in-depth four-part course on Udemy, but the good news is that you don’t need all four parts to get the plans.
You only need to study part four of her course, which is entirely devoted to customized plans.
At the time of this writing, we’ve reached out to tiny home builders to inquire what they charge for custom tiny home plans.
All those we deem to be affordable will be added to this post, so go ahead and bookmark this page and check back in as we will continually update with new resources.
